It is silly to dismiss the mainstream in the name of just wanting something better than average. I have seen most such cases fail - miserably. Mainstream has always meant something - power. And for power you need to be good. I have immense respect for people who are powerful and popular in the mainstream.
The elite can never have power. They might have money and influence but real power is in mainstream. The elite live scared without perspective lives.
I think that sort of explains some of the conflicts I face :)
